Troubleshooting Plain Paper Summaries:

Problem description: Plain Paper Summaries fail, reason unknown. Check the Email Setup or contact the service provider to ensure the information is correct, See below:

  • Click Setup top right.
  • Click E-mail Setup
  • SMTP Mail Server: If the SMTP server is behind a firewall that blocks any direct SMTP traffic (through ports), find out if there is a smart host available on the network that is allowed to relay SMTP messages to the Internet. A smart host is an SMTP server with the permissions to relay outgoing email messages directly to the Internet from internal SMTP servers. A smart host should be able to simultaneously connect to both the internal network and the Internet to work as the email gateway.
  • Port: Port 25 is the standard email port and rarely needs to be changed. If the email system requires a non-standard port, enter it here. It could be port 465 or 587, the service provider may also have a different port to use.
  • Authentication: By default, email is sent without authentication. If the email server requires a username and password, then select either basic or NTLM authentication and enter the username and password.
  • Click OK

Problem description: When Plain Paper Summaries are emailed to an employee's email address, the employee receives a document full of garbled data. This is fixed by disabling the HTML code located in the system email setup.
